HMV Scattergram Radiogram
Greetings all,
We, @retraphonics invite you once again to embrace yourselves with yet another masterpiece.
An eager to please little Voodoo Child, the HMV Scattergram. Easily one of the best condition units we have had the pleasure of owning.
It was the year 1967, you were just about ready to jet set from the country to the city. College bound, you had your suitcase packed and just as you arrived at your dorm there was a delivery there waiting for you with your name on it. It was a HMV Scattergram! Thanks mum!!!
Known in Australia to be a staple in college/ university homestay environments because it was modular, easy to move around and transport from place to place. Yet it was still loud enough to host parties, revolutionary for the time.
Built in Sydney Australia in 1966-1969 HMV really nailed this one, so much so they used the same transistor amplifier in a few other larger standalone models too.
If you have been keeping an eye on the market lately or even for the past few years you’ll come to realise that the good condition units are become scarce.
With that being said we have had the joy of fully restoring this little blast from the past and oh boy did it turn out a treat. Take a look at that wood finish. You can see yourself in the reflection it is a Teak glossy dynamite.
The ‘Studio 7’ amplifier is robust and utilises silicone transistors with a very durable build, twin amplifier section with push pull output stage resulting in the large 12wpc into full range speakers. All electrolytic capacitors have been replaced to ensure another 60 years of record playing. In-cabin light bulbs have been replaced and all potentiometers and switches have received a deep sonic cleaning solution. Back to perfect working operable condition.
The real trophy is the English made Garrard 3000 fully automatic turntable, one touch action. Take up to 10 of your favourite records and the System will stack them one after the other and continuously play them all. But wait, you just have to press one button. Mind blowing technology which still today is ahead of its time. The engineering and craftsman ship of these turntables is worth the asking price on that single basis.
Garrard 3000’s are a personal favourite of mine and I adore the mechanics and the precision build quality that these turntables have. We completely disassemble them in-house and rebuild them back to new, something we take pride in and dedicate a generous amount of time to get them back to perfect working order. Fitted with a modern-day high quality ceramic cartridge and stylus to boot.
A stunning modular radiogram with the option to place the speakers anywhere in the room it is quite the versatile unit. You’ll be hard pressed to ever see one arise in the wild in this condition. As I always say, maybe I shouldn’t sell this one, I just know I won’t get another in this unmolested condition. After all they don’t make them anymore.
Added iPhone/ Samsung compatibility we sell an adapter cable to play your favourite Spotify playlist or maybe that album you just can’t get on vinyl? If that’s not your thing it also has AM Radio functionalities.
Visit our instagram to see and hear the music, you’ll certainly be impressed with this one.
