Philips Novasonic 770 Radiogram

A$2,450.00

We’re back again with another big hitter;

Introducing the Philips Novasonic 770 Cassette Stereogram

What a mouthful and rightfully so, this unit features all the bells and whistles from the bright and beautiful early 1970’s

Firstly, a quick introduction to who we are. We are Retraphonics, verified Radiogram-Aholics. I, myself have been collecting Australian Radiograms for way too long now. Fortunately for you I have decided that 2025 is the year that some of my more bespoke and unique Radiograms are now available for purchase. Check out @retraphonics on instagram or on retraphonics.com to see the sea of Radiograms I’ve owned.

This Philips actually takes the cake for one of the units I have auditioned for almost the longest period of time. I generally rotate my Radiograms on a monthly basis in my private listening room. This little puppy had a long stay in that space.

Why?

Because it truly has a real good sound to it, something about Philips transistor Stereograms that have a distinctive really good quality tone to them. I never tired from this unit’s sound and for that, ill always heavily back Philips Radiograms till the end. Touching base on the obvious here but isn’t it just a gorgeous piece to look at too.

Lets get into it then;

This is one of the later models of the Novasonic range, featuring a late model high quality BSR automatic stacking turntable and quite a decent cassette deck too.

We have gone the whole nine yards as usual and fully torn down the turntable and rebuild it from the ground up, including new grease and lubricant and a high quality ceramic cartridge and stylus to boot. All functions now working flawlessly, back to new as I say. Did I mention it can stack up to six of your favourite records at one consecutive time!? Push one button and it’ll play one vinyl after the other. Thats right, an obsolete mechanism that is worlds ahead of its time. Nothing of its kind is offered in todays turntable manufacturing. Priceless.

Keeping everything in tone we have an all transistor amplifier under the hood, I’ve said it once and ill say it again. Phillips sound great, unique and colourful audio reproduction. We have given the amplifier a good restoration including all electrolytic capacitors replaced. All potentiometers and switches sonic cleaned. We have substituted the radio for smartphone compatibility too. Get ready for loud playback because this one is really really loud.

Lastly it has a very tidy Philips Novasonic Cassette deck, very nice. Pull them old mixtapes out and given them a spin for old times sakes. We spent alot of time getting this relic back up and running. It has received a main belt replacement, playback and recording heads cleaned along with the tape path also cleaned. We also replaced the out of spec capacitors on the audio board. For a 50 year old cassette player its sounding pretty good.

A compact Stereogram which is absolutely glowing with 1970’s good times. Hats off the the Philips team in South Australia because their cabinetry construction is extremely notable. The quality and attention to detail of the construction is top tier. Perfect.

We have refinished the wood and given it a nice treatment, resulting in a mirror finish on the walnut real wood veneer. The exterior of the cabinet is now in flawless condition.
