PYE Transista Hi Fi Radiogram

A$4,450.00

Greetings.

We have just passed the finish line for this gorgeous Mid Century PYE Radiogram and what a victory it was.

If you follow my journey you may be thinking I’ve been a little quiet on my posting lately, well that’s because I’ve been working hard restoring this beauty as of late.

To start ill give a little spill about myself for some of you newcomers, we are Retraphonics. A three piece team of dedicated Radiogram collectors and restoration perfectionists. I myself have been collecting Australian made Radiograms for longer than what you would consider normal.

You’ve tuned in at just the right time because 2025 is the year of the Radiogram and I’ve made the extremely difficult decision to hand pick some of the rarest and most obscure pieces from my prized collection and offer them for up for sale. Before I can do this we embark on a painful but rewarding journey of restoring each Radiogram back to its original condition with absolutely no manipulation and no changes being made to the design or to any of the original components. That’s why we are the BEST in the country.

I present to you the PYE Transphonic Hi-fi Radiogram!

I am receiving more and more requests for radiograms with hidden ‘Pull Down’ cavities that house the turntable. Very 60’s indeed. So here we are. This one even has an additional pull down for vinyl storage with a beautifully hand crafted vinyl rack.

As always I can write a novel on each Radiogram in my collection but ill attempt to keep this one short but forgive me if I get a little carried away as I am very passionate about each model.

Basically this one really speaks for itself, the professional photos are raw and unedited so you’re able to see exactly how it presents. This one turned out AMAZING! I would rate this one in the ‘as new’ category both cosmetically and functionality wise.

Manufactured by PYE industries Sydney Australia in 1962 the Transista-Fi model’s had 4 variations and were produced for almost 10 years. A very successful model and super desirable in this climate for Mid-Century collectors. This one is the first run and the earliest model ive had the chance to own.

Whats the difference in early or later model Transista-Fi Radiograms?

Well, Whilst all the cabinetry remained the same size the internals were slightly different and the veneer was also different. Not to mention the early model has the beautiful Beige turntable.

The real trophy is the English made Garrard AT6 fully automatic turntable, one touch action. Take up to 10 of your favourite records and the System will stack them one after the other and continuously play them all. But wait, you just have to press one button. Mind blowing technology which still today is ahead of its time. The engineering and craftsman ship of these turntables is worth the asking price on that single basis.

Garrard AT6’s are a personal favourite of mine and I adore the mechanics and the precision build quality that these turntables have. We completely disassemble them in-house and rebuild them back to new, something we take pride in and dedicate a generous amount of time to get them back to perfect working order. Fitted with a modern-day high quality ceramic cartridge and stylus to boot.

The first run of this design actually had 4 loudspeakers, whereas all the later models only had 2. We are very fortunate that this model has the original 4 full range Magnavox loudspeakers. We have replaced the crossover capacitors to ensure to best sound reproduction. Boy does this puppy sound good, volume levels you’ll never reach as it goes so loud and sounds dangerously vintage. The most avid critical vinyl listeners will certainly be impressed at the soundstage on offer.

Despite the name Transista Transphonic, it actually houses a circuit board Valve Amplifier which is quite a misleading model name. How cool?! The AM Radio stage actually incorporates early transistor design.

We have restored the original amplifier to perfect working order, All new electrolytic capacitors, all valves and valve sockets sonic cleaned along with all switches and potentiometers sonic cleaned. A brand new 3 core power cable has also been fitted to the unit. Rounding it off this model also incorporates the 6GW8 valves which are a personal favourite of mine and they sound just fabulous.

Additional iPhone adapter cable is on offer for an extra cost, this one sounds super nice with iPhone playlists I was pleasantly surprised with how good it responded to modern day electronic music if I’m honest.

The cabinet has been recondition and the original Golden Teak has been polished to perfection, you could do your makeup in the mirror like reflection of this veneer work it is simply a piece of art.

Our Radiograms are priced accordingly and are fixed, for an interested local buyer an appointment can be made to view and hear on the Gold Coast in our showroom. Interstate buyers are welcome and we can organise all shipping ventures.
