HMV Scattergram

A beautifully preserved Australian-made HMV Scattergram from the late 1960s, combining classic mid-century design with a versatile three-piece configuration.

Unlike a conventional single-cabinet radiogram, the Scattergram features a central record player and amplifier cabinet with two separate matching speakers, allowing the speakers to be positioned independently within the room.

This example has been extensively restored in-house by Retraphonics and is in particularly impressive original condition.

The original HMV Studio 7 transistor amplifier has been serviced, with the electrolytic capacitors replaced and the controls and switches thoroughly cleaned and serviced. The internal lighting has also been renewed and the complete system tested for reliable operation.

At the centre is its original English-made Garrard 3000 automatic stacking turntable. The turntable has been completely dismantled and mechanically restored in-house, with the mechanism cleaned, correctly lubricated, adjusted and tested. A new high-quality ceramic cartridge and stylus have also been installed.

The Garrard automatic system allows multiple records to be stacked and played sequentially, retaining one of the best features of the original turntable.

The matching timber cabinetry presents beautifully and the separate speaker design makes the Scattergram an especially versatile piece for a vintage audio system.

AM radio is retained, with smartphone audio compatibility also available for playing music from services such as Spotify through the original system.
